Each year, the 6 Spirit of Sandra scholars are responsible for organizing a fundraising event in their community. Last year’s scholars raised over $15,000 for the Sandra Schmirler Foundation (SSF). The scholars met as a group to decide the piece of life-saving equipment that would be purchased with the funds raised.
Scholar Jestyn Murphy joined SSF Board member Steve Doty in presenting a cheque for $17,577 for the purchase of a Blood, Gas and Lactate Analyzer for the Newborn Intensive Care Unit (NICU) at the Peterborough Regional Health Centre (PRHC). Joining them was Irene Carter as well as Steven MacDonald and Lisa Killen from the PRHC Foundation.
“The best part of our work is when we have the opportunity to tour our NICU and show our donors the impact their support is having in our hospital by helping ensure we can provide great care to even our tiniest patients and their families”, said Corinna Campbell, Development Officer, Major Gifts. The SSF has now donated over $745,000 to purchase life-saving equipment for the NICUs at 17 Hospitals across Ontario.
