The Sandra Schmirler Foundation would like to thank the volunteers, sponsors and golfers for a very successful golf tournament at the Sunset Ranch Golf Course in Kelowna with all proceeds going to the Sandra Schmirler Foundation (SSF).
The Foundation matched the money raised up to $25,000 which when combined with the $27,000 the Committee raised means that $52,000 was donated to the Kelowna General Hospital for the purchase of neonatal cardiac respiratory monitors for their newborn intensive care unit (NICU). These machines measure a baby’s breathing rate, heart beat and oxygen level so that caregivers can determine how the newborn is doing and make decisions regarding treatments and medication.
Accepting the cheque for $25,000 from SSF Director Jody Meli is world curling champion, Sasha Carter, Chair of the Kelowna Organizing Committee and herself a SSF Director. Sharing her own story at the banquet, was provincial curling champion, Diane McLean with 8-year old daughter Emma, who was born at only 23 weeks and weighing just 1.1 pound.
